SM125 Celebrating 125 Years of the Royal Navy Submarine Service
SM125 marks 125 years of the Royal Navy Submarine Service, commemorating its remarkable journey from the launch of Holland 1 in 1901 to today’s highly capable and technologically advanced underwater fleet.
Through two World Wars, the Cold War, and modern-day operations, submariners have played a vital role in safeguarding the United Kingdom’s security and interests around the globe. While SM125 celebrates this proud heritage, it also looks firmly to the future, highlighting the next generation of capability through programmes such as the Dreadnought-class submarines and SSN-AUKUS.
Above all, SM125 is a celebration of the people behind the service—recognising the courage, professionalism, and commitment of generations of submariners whose dedication has shaped its legacy.
As part of CNE 2026, a prestigious Gala Dinner was held in London on 19th May 2026, bringing together senior naval leaders, industry representatives, and members of the wider submarine community. Among those in attendance was our very own garden contractors and Manager of Jess Owens Gardening, Jon Boreham.
Not only did Jon and his wife have the privilege of attending this distinguished event, but in the six weeks leading up to the dinner, Jon devoted a tremendous amount of time, effort, and craftsmanship to creating the spectacular centrepiece cake for the evening. We are sure you will agree that the finished creation looked absolutely outstanding.
In our opinion, it may well have been one of the highlights of the Submarine Service Anniversary celebrations.
As an association, we take great pride in employing veterans and recognising the diverse talents, skills, and achievements they bring beyond their military service. We are delighted to share Jon’s story with our community and to celebrate his exceptional contribution to such a memorable occasion.
